The second day of competitions at #REALEMF19 opened with the 3rd edition of the Milksology by Président competition. Open to both professional and amateur baristas, the aim of this contest, sponsored by Lactalis FoodService Iberia, is to find an innovative drink focusing on health and wellbeing that could be an alternative to what is already on the market.
Gabriel Vilar, of the Toledo Tourism Board, was the winner of this third edition with his
“Origin”, a creation based on memories of his childhood and, more specifically, the custard that his mother prepared for him every Sunday. He presented it in small glass bottles, a reminder of the times when the milk arrived every morning fresh from the milking sheds.
Vilar competed with another five finalists who had to produce an original, innovative drink based on one of the varieties of Président milk. The jury was chaired by Willy Gómez, Spanish champion for cocktails with coffee 2017 and finalist in Worldclass España 2016 and 2017, and included Carlos Moreno, executive bartender and barman for the Larrumba group, and Zoltan Nagy, the promoter of a school for baristas. They took into account the creativity and techniques used as well as the flavour and presentation of the drink.
The runner-up was Andrea Mas from GBM Coffee & Cocktail (Alicante) with his “Cheese board”, which simulated a smoked cheese. The inspiration came from France. Mas stated, “I wanted to recreate that wonderful French custom of serving a selection of cheeses after meals”. And in third position was Iván Eijo, from Tierras Galegas (Gijón, Asturias), with his cocktail Cherry Coffee Cream. This drink, with an aroma of capuccino, had a marked milky taste and an aftertaste of coffee and truffle.
In addition to the professional acknowledgement received by the winners of this competition, they also received 1,000€ in the case of the winner, and 600€ and 300€ for those who came in second and third places, respectively.
