Today we learnt the name of the winner of a new edition of the Choose your Kitchen Hand competition organised by Makro. It was Jordi Comas, a student at the CETT in Barcelona, with the company of Juanjo Pérez, from the Cocinandos restaurant in León.
In this competition, the participants had to select one of the four chefs proposed by the organisation to make the recipes they themselves had devised. And each of these chefs represented a local cuisine in which the recipe made by the competitor had to fit.
In addition, the students had the privilege of working alongside the chef that they had chosen from among those proposed by the organisation, the latter taking the role of kitchen hand.
The tandem made up of Jordi Comas, from Girona, with chef Juanjo Pérez from Leon, won first prize with a recipe that combines the best of both territories, a surf and turf dish including a very Leonese product, knuckle of lamb, with prawns that gave a Mediterranean touch. Comas wanted to “enhance the Leonese product in a gastronomic presentation that respected the essence and value of the product”.
The proposal convinced the demanding jury chaired by Luis Andoni Aduriz (Mugaritz), who stated that Jordi Comas had combined the various ingredients with mastein a masterly fashion.
Popular comedian Leo Harlem presented this competition, sponsored by Makro, in which four finalists competed, having been selected from a total of 320 competitors.
