Master of Wine

Holder of a Degree in Agriculture Engineering and a Master’s in Viticulture and Oenology, Pedro Ballesteros secured a WSET diploma with distinction and was named Master of Wine in 2010, making him the first Spaniard to earn this prestigious title.

Pedro Ballesteros MW writes for top wine publications in Spain, Belgium, the UK and Italy, he works in four languages and is a member of the Gran Orden de Caballeros del Vino, among others. He has studied in the winemaking regions of Jerez, Rheingau, Burgundy, Napa and Bordeaux, and he presides over some of the top international wine competitions such as the Decanter World Wine Awards, Vinitaly’s 5Stars, Concours Mondial Bruxelles and Bacchus.

Ballesteros is active in the fields of promotion and education too, namely as a member of the Council of the Institute of Masters of Wine, the board of directors of the Spanish Winetasters Union, the Council of the International Federation of Wine and Spirits Journalists and the Wine Committee of the Basque Culinary Centre, among others. He is also Spain’s national expert for the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV).
