Recently named Personality of the Year 2022 by wines and distillates guide Wine Up!, Pedro Ruiz Aragoneses, CEO of Alma Carraovejas, is without doubt one of today's leading names in wine.
A trained psychologist, he has demonstrated he has an in-born nose for wine businesses. It was under his management, aged only 25, that the Pago Carraovejas winery in Peñafiel (Valladolid) was consolidated, and he also established the Ambivium* restaurant featuring one of Spain's most spectacular wine cellars.
In recent years he has added wineries from other production zones such as Ossian, pre-phylloxera "verdejos" from Segovia, Viña Meín and Emilio Rojo from the D.O. Ribeiro and Bodega Marañones in the D.O. Madrid. In addition to these purchases, Ruiz Aragoneses is creating other Premium wine projects such as Milsetentayseis in the D.O. Ribera del Duero and Aiurri, his recent scheme in San Vicente de la Sonsierra (La Rioja) alongside the Eguiluz family.
In a generous move to give back a little of what he receives, he has another project that goes beyond the wine business: creation of the "Liquid Culture" foundation to support, showcase and boost knowledge of the culture of wine in all its aspects.
