Born in Marsala (Sicily), gastronomy has always been a prominent feature in his life, even though he started out as an economist.
Love led him to settle in Spain, in Madrid, and one night in 2005 he had his first dinner at the Don Giovanni restaurant 200 metres from his home in the city. Surprised at the poor quality of the pasta he had ordered, he asked to speak to the owner. She merely offered him the lease on the premises.
In record time, Tumbarello went from diner to chef at Don Giovanni, and finally became the owner of the ‘trattoria’. Tumbarello's restaurant, which has won many prizes, among which two "Sol" awards from the Repsol Guide, was declared Madrid's Best Italian Restaurant in May 2012 by Daroca's Muestra Gastronómica de la Pasta y el Dulce (Zaragoza).
Known as the ‘truffle king’, Andrea has his own line of products based on the fungus (salt, honey, butter, caviar, cream of boletus, bonbons etc.). During the black and white truffle season, the chef devises a tasting menu based on this product
