Tao Platón

Technical Director of Península Vinicultores (Rioja Alavesa, Spain)

Born in Palencia, Tao Platón stands out in Spanish oenology for his innovative approach and passion for viticulture. A chemist by training and an oenologist at heart, Platón came to the world of wine unexpectedly, with no family background in winemaking. A fact that leads him to maintain a humble attitude and to consider himself an "impostor" in the world of wine.

He is currently the technical director of Península Vinicultores, where he works alongside Master of Wine Andreas Kubach to create wines that reflect the unique identity of the different villages of Rioja Alavesa. With a philosophy that focuses on making wines that are enjoyable and connect the consumer to the territory, Plato has twice won the prestigious Lallemand Scholarship from the Institute of Masters of Wine, demonstrating his mastery of topics such as biogenic amines in wine. His approach combines tradition with innovation, looking to the past for solutions to future problems such as climate change.
